Coin (Stars) Terms

Last updated: 2026-05-14 · These terms are reviewed by Astra periodically and effective on the Last updated date above.

These Coin Terms govern Stars, Astra's prepaid platform credit. Read together with the Payment Terms, Refund Policy, Subscription Terms, Community Guidelines, and Live Streaming Rules.

1. What Stars are

  • Stars are pre-paid platform credit redeemable for gifts, tips, AI voice minutes, reader sessions, and shop items on Astra.
  • Stars are not currency, not legal tender, and have no cash value outside the Platform.
  • Stars are not a payment instrument under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, the EU Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2), or similar regimes — they are limited-purpose closed-loop credit.

2. What Stars are not

  • Not transferable between user accounts.
  • Not redeemable for cash by users.
  • Not an investment, security, or token tradable on any secondary market.
  • Not a Stripe Connect payout currency; reader payouts are in USD via Stripe Connect per the Reader Agreement.

3. How Stars are purchased

  • In Settings → Wallet → Top up or at any Stars purchase prompt.
  • Purchased in fixed bundles displayed at checkout.
  • Subject to the Payment Terms (currency, taxes, payment methods).

4. How Stars are spent

  • Live gifts sent to broadcasters on Live and in voice rooms.
  • Tips sent to readers, broadcasters, or community members.
  • AI voice minutes beyond your subscription's included quota.
  • Reader-session top-ups for premium minutes.
  • Shop items marked as Stars-priced.

The Star-to-USD redemption rate is fixed at purchase and is displayed on the receipt.

5. Expiration

Stars do not expire for normal use. If your account is inactive for 24 months, we may notify you and convert unredeemed Stars to a wallet-credit balance pending your return.

For US users in jurisdictions with escheatment / unclaimed- property laws that apply to gift cards, the rules of your state may extend protection beyond 24 months; we honour the longer period.

6. Refunds and forfeiture

  • Unredeemed Stars within 7 days of purchase: 70% goodwill refund (covers payment-processor + chargeback-risk cost).
  • Redeemed Stars (spent on gifts, sessions, or items): no refund.
  • Account closed for cause (zero-tolerance violation per Community Guidelines § 2): Stars forfeited.
  • Account closed voluntarily: unredeemed Stars refundable at 70% within 30 days of closure on written request.

See the Refund Policy § 3 for the canonical rules.

7. Anti-abuse

  • Bulk purchase patterns indicative of money-laundering or chargeback fraud may be paused for manual review.
  • Coordinated gift schemes that artificially inflate creator rankings are a Community Guidelines violation.
  • Reselling Stars off-platform is prohibited.

8. Creator side: Stars as gifts

When you (the broadcaster / reader) receive Stars as a gift or tip, the 70/30 split applies and you are paid in USD via Stripe Connect on the standard payout schedule (Reader Agreement § 4, Live Streaming Rules § 8).

9. Tax

  • For US-resident creators, gift / tip / Stars revenue is treated as ordinary income reportable on IRS Form 1099-K where the IRS threshold is met.
  • For non-US creators, IRS Form W-8BEN or W-8BEN-E is collected.

10. Changes

We may change Star bundle prices, redemption rates, or feature pricing. For increases that affect already-purchased Stars we will honour the rate in effect at the time of your purchase for at least 30 days after notice.
